Beginning Homebrewing – Review of the Mr Beer Kit
Beer home-brewing can become a great hobby and for some people becomes a real big passion in their life. Not only is it one of the most rewarding hobbies you can get it’s relatively cheap compared to other hobbies. The Mr. Beer Kit can be one of the best ways to get into this hobby.
There are three levels of the kits, Deluxe, Premium and Ultimate, all priced respectively. They all come with great detailed instructions on the process. We suggest spending the extra money and grabbing the Ultimate as it allows for a lot more expansion that you will most likely want later on.
You will find this kit to be one of the easiest beginner setups on the market. Most people do not understand though, that fermentation takes at least a week and up to a month for some mixes. Bottling and carbonation starts by sterilizing the bottles with a provided packet. But you will need to wait an additional week to allow the carbonation to set in, this is when the beer is finally drinkable. This is a very time consuming process but can offer loads of fun and be a great past-time. The Mr. Beer kit does it wonderfully adding no additional stress to the process. Some other kits may be cheaper upfront but will cost you time, energy and money to piece together the extras that already are included with even the basic “deluxe” package of the Mr. Beer kit.
While the actual brewing of the beer is the quickest part, the entire process takes time and that’s because of the sanitation required. Some kits do not seem to emphasize this important aspect of brewing nearly enough. You may not get the best beer from the kit, but it will give you the best idea on the time it takes for the process and great knowledge on the entire process and you may just of found a new hobby!
